I would recommend Garmin.
u can get used ones on ebay, but that will probably get u an old rcvr which is not as good as the new ones. but if u know what u are buying u could get a deal.
The best one currently for geocaching is a Garmin GPSMAP-60CSx which goes for about $ 277 at Amazon.
I have a older 60CS (without "x") which isn't as good under trees or heavy clouds.
Work ur way back from there till u find the price u want.
The Cx has no compass or barometer - not needed=cheaper
the 76 line has the same functions but is also less expensive and I think u can get a mono screen instead of color (that's what "C" stands for)

Garmin is the best for gps.

Well, you may just be lucky to get a GeoCaching Device, thats not expensive and thats from Garmin.
If that's what you are looking for, try this deal for a refurbished Garmin Nuvi GPS Device priced around $ 130. Check it out here -
