Garmin eTrex computer connections?I recently bought a cable for my garmin eTrex to connect it to my computer. One end of the cable connects to the GPS and the other connects to the computer by a 9-pin D connector. Can anyone explain the point of having a connection like that? How am i suppose to plug it into my laptop with out buying another cable to transfer it into a USB port?

You either bought the cheapest of the etrex units or an obsolete model. They are the only ones that use the serial port connection instead of a USB connection.
People who buy the cheap unit usually don't hook it to a computer so they kept the old interface from the gray scale models that are long gone from the product line instead of adding the cost of the USB interface. (yes, it costs more to have a USB interface than the serial interface on a product but it is more flexible)
Be sure to buy a USB-Serial adapter from a shop that will let you return it if it doesn't work. Some interfaces are picky. The P-frank adapters (might still find them on ebay, search for P-frank and garmin)

obviously, the one Garmin sells will work but it is horrendously expensive.
