Which handheld gps should i buy?Hello everyone,
I need some help. I would like to buy my fiance a handheld gps for christmas. I had no idea how many different kinds there are until i started having a look, and now i am completely stuck.
I think he's mentioned the Garmin make in the past. He wanted one that you can download maps onto and that has a colour screen, i want to do it as a surprise so don't really want to mention it to him but i also don't want to get one that isn't any good to him either.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you
Ralfcoder
I have a Garmin E-Trex Legend that I really like. It has maps loaded on it, although that was an extra cost. But a lot depends on what he wants to do with it. If he's boating or hiking or geocaching or hunting, something from the E-trex line would be a good choice. If he's going to be with buddies, the 2-way radio/GPS systems like the Rino's are very good, too. If others in the party have these, they can display the location of every one of them. It's a handy tool if you're hiking or hunting.
I've used mine when driving cross-country, and it can be handy. But it's not as good as the driver's systems, like the Nuvi or TomTom, for example. So it all depends on what he wants to do with it.
