Can you upload maps to multiple GPS units?I have a garmin Nuvi 265, and am looking on ebay for 2 more for my family. I would like for all of them to have the 2011 updated maps. All the reading I've been doing states that I would have to purchase 3 updates for 3 garmin's. Could this be true? At $ 70.00 or more per garmin, that's outrageous.
Does anyone know?

Yes, it is one map license per unit. The maps are copyrighted material, that's they way it is.
You cold call and see if you can get a discount for the three licenses though.

it depends on which company you purchase from. each gps company has a licensing agreement to sale gps maps and gps map updates. you are right that is outrageous, the updates cost more than the gps unit or 50% of the cost of the gps. lol. before you buy a gps with any gps manufacturer it is vital that you check with them to see what their map update policy is. this should be the main determining factor for purchasing their product. look around at mio, magellan, tomtom, newelectronx gps, garmin, motorola, etc and see what there map update policy is. find the one company that has the cutting edge gps technology and most offered features like life time map updates, internet, radar detector, built in flash player, mp3 player while map directions are given, turn by turn directions, etc. you will be amazed at how many lovely deals you can get out there. another option would be to beg garmin to offer you a package deal on 3 units. but keep in mind this maybe a one time deal and you should expect to pay full value in the future. so cut your lost and buy the 3 units and the separate updates or get another gps from another reputable company.
