Garmin maps do not load when power cord is in car lighter?Disconnect power cord from Garmin and maps will the load.

try resetting your Garmin. there is a reset button under the face plate

My guess is that you don't have the original Garmin DC adaptor. If you try to use one of the generic MiniUSB DC adaptors, or one for your mobile phone, it will put the unit into "PC Connectivity Mode".

To solve this you need to buy the actual Garmin DC adaptor. They sell for $ 32 at any BestBuy or RadioShack, and you can get them for alot cheaper online as well.

**Once again, the generic ones won't work with the Garmins, they use a different voltage.
