TomTom vs. Garmin? Any particular model of each company that's good?I'm new to the whole GPS thing and have decided to get one. However, I don't know much about what's out there. I keep hearing from everyone that TomTom's and Garmin's are good but both have their pros and cons. So here are my questions:
1. Can anyone tell me which ones are the newest ones out, which of the older ones are good...etc.? Any particular model number that stands out? (I would only need to use it for basic directions within NY, like going from the city to Long Island or finding a specific address within Manhattan, that sort of thing. Which one is good for that kind of thing?)
2. Also, I know there's a feature called "text to speech" where the GPS says the street names. Which models of each brand carries that? Is it helpful with this feature?
3. Is it a necessity to have one of those wall chargers or USB chargers for these GPS systems also?
4. What are the price ranges for both TomTom and Garmin? I know Garmin makes GPS for aircrafts and have been in this GPS business longer.
I know some people take their GPS out of country but I don't do that at all. I hear that Garmin screens are really bright but not as user friendly as TomTom's and that TomTom's you can easily update the maps for free as well as add things that are wrong on their maps. Thank you everyone in advance!

I strongly recommend garmins. They are the best and most user friendly and easy to use. I like the Nuvi series and I think you should definitely check them out. Sales are going on everywhere
